PATO score

What is a PATO score?

A PATO score is a rating attached to every movement in our library, indicating how well that exercise suits a given member. It’s what lets a coach — or the plan builder — choose between twenty variations of a squat without knowing each member’s full history by heart.

What it’s for

A movement library is only useful if it helps you choose. Two thousand exercises with no guidance is a longer problem, not a solution.

The score does the narrowing. A coach filtering for a member with a shoulder issue, limited equipment and six months’ experience sees what fits — and doesn’t spend the afternoon reading contraindications.

It’s a recommendation, never a decision. Your coaches override it whenever they judge differently, and the score never blocks a choice.

Why it matters for your gym

Programming time is the expensive part of coaching, and most of it is spent selecting rather than designing. Narrowing 2.9K+ movements to the sensible handful is where the hours go.

It also protects against the quiet error: prescribing something contraindicated for a member whose history the coach doesn’t have loaded that morning. That’s not a common mistake, but it’s an expensive one.

Common questions

How is it calculated?
It reflects how well a movement suits a member’s context. We don’t publish the method, and it isn’t something you need to tune.
Can I override it?
Always. It ranks; it never restricts.
Does it apply to my custom movements?
Your own movements sit alongside the library and are fully usable; scoring is applied to the core catalogue.
